Mauritius Marks World Diabetes Day 2025 with Call for Prevention and Early Action

At the World Diabetes Day 2025 ceremony, a strong call was made for prevention, early detection, and shared responsibility in addressing one of Mauritius’ most pressing health challenges. With one in five Mauritians living with diabetes and rising risks among young people, the government is intensifying efforts through nationwide screenings, public education, a sugar tax on unhealthy products, and the establishment of five Regional Diabetes Centres.

AYUSH Centre of Excellence Moves Forward with Major Grant and Renewed Commitment

The long-delayed AYUSH Centre of Excellence is now moving ahead rapidly, supported by a Rs 2 billion grant from India following recent discussions between the two Prime Ministers. Planned for Côte d’Or, the Centre will offer a 100-bed hospital, Panchakarma units, diagnostics, physiotherapy, yoga and meditation spaces, as well as training and research facilities. Designed as a modern, sustainable wellness hub, it aims to bring structured Ayurveda and yoga services to Mauritius. The project is being closely followed and driven with the goal of completion within two years.
